2021 Cabernet Sauvignon

  • Tasting Notes

    Onyx core, magenta rim.

Gardenia, rose, English lavender, eucalyptus, bay laurel, and citrus leaves, followed by ripe boysenberry and blackberry. Secondary notes of whipped brown butter, sugar, nutmeg crumble, morning bakery, cardamom, limestone dust, and amphora.

Structured yet sumptuous with balanced acidity and ripe fruit. Medium-plus body, silky mouthfeel, densely concentrated fruit, citrus, and spice. Delicate fine tannins, persistent finish.

  • Background

Cabernet Sauvignon was the second varietal to appear under our Brown Estate label. Following four vintages of strictly Zinfandel production we began bottling our estate Cab Sauv with the 2000 vintage. This wine is produced from two vineyards blocks on the east side of our property. Our hillside Terraces Block at elevation 1300 feet struggles to yield a few tons of sparsely clustered tiny berries with inky intensity. Our Far East Block, surrounded by oak trees in a protected amphitheater, grows robustly and with minimal intervention. Between the two we have a comprehensive expression of Napa Valley hillside Cabernet Sauvignon the Brown way.
