TASTING NOTES: This newest bottling of our Westside Zinfandel is rife with elegant, gentle, jammy qualities. Between its deep garnet core and magenta rim lies an aura of sultry depth. Delve deeper and you will encounter subtle yarrow, roasted sweet herbs, bay laurel, and a hint of eucalyptus. Mouthfeel is silky, rich, and deep with a touch of glycerin that delivers a smooth, supple, enveloping sensation. 2012 Chardonnay

2012 Chardonnay 750ml – $55 | $49.50 | $46.75

250 CASES PRODUCED – SOLD OUT | Download PDF Tech Sheet

TASTING NOTES: Golden straw in color with a touch of wildflower honey, this wine sparkles delicately in the glass, reminding us of our 2002 chardonnay. Fittingly, it embodies all of the qualities of that very first vintage: highly nuanced honeysuckle, pineapple, and flint, along with substantial body and lithe acidity. The rich buttercream and toffee that were present in the 2010 and 2011 vintages are absent here. Instead, tropical fruit notes dominate, mingling with effervescent Meyer lemon, lemongrass, and bergamot and leading to deeper notes of guava and subtle caramel. Time in the glass reveals an intriguing note of savory toasted Marcona almond with a dusting of lavender and fleur de sel. Silky and deep on the palate with a delicate yet lively zest that beckons another sip… and another! Drink now through 2022.

2012 Chaos Theory

2012 Chaos Theory 750ml – $40 | $36 | $34

1100 CASES PRODUCED – SOLD OUT | Download PDF Tech Sheet

TASTING NOTES: Our Chaos Theory is an epic tale of the blending of three magnificent varietals, and their willingness to sublimate their individual genius in service to the greater good, thus creating a masterpiece that embodies the best of each. The 2012 vintage is a gorgeous pool of magenta that blends with sapphire onyx at the core while a delicate scarlet rim frames the glass. The nose instantly draws you into its depths, where sultry aromas of black currant, crème de cassis, tobacco, and subtle smoky earth give way to sweet cedar and spicy clove. This vintage is similar to the 2011, the distinction being the effect of the 2012 growing season that marked all of our wines with a bolder and more expressive overall character from the eye to the palate. Mouthfeel is rich, deep, and full with the decadence of a dark black forest gateau and silky smooth texture. Vibrant citrus and pomegranate components shadow and interlace with a voluptuous richness, providing the perfect combination of structure and extracted juiciness. The virtues of this wine are many – our Chaos Theory is a crowd pleaser that ultimately will unite your guests with one wine for all. Pair with just about anything from pizza to hearty pastas to glazed black cod to beef short ribs. Drink now through 2022.

2012 Napa Valley Zinfandel

2012 Napa Valley Zin 750ml – $42 | $37.80 | $35.70

1800 CASES PRODUCED | Download PDF Tech Sheet

TASTING NOTES: Our Napa Valley Zinfandel historically has borne the responsibility of being the ultimate representative of our four zinfandel blocks – the best of the best of our Brown Estate terroir integrated into one stellar wine. As such, it is the most challenging zin we produce because it requires commingling of four distinct “personalities” into one well-adjusted protagonist. The fact that no single vineyard’s qualities dominate here is a testament to the integration, fluidity, and perpetual motion – the balancing act! – that is Brown Estate itself. Deeper, darker, and richer than previous vintages, this 2012 bottling is marked by ripe Bing cherry and big briery black fruit characteristics. Exotic spice and subtle citrus integrate with vibrant acidity to balance out this wine’s lush and rich juiciness. Excellent palate weight with a silky, long, lingering finish. Drink 2014 through 2022..

TASTING NOTES: Our 2012 Mickey's Block Zinfandel harkens back to the original 2009 vintage where it consistently stole the show with stop-you-in-your-tracks vibrant, ultra-ripe jammy fruit. It is charismatic and enchanting, displaying smoldering black fruit and rich cream. Deep, dark, and dense with a garnet core and ruby/rose-colored rim. Nose bursts forth with ultra-ripe blackberries and black cherries with hints of pot de crème and fresh baked pie crust. Smokey herb and wild game notes banter with sweet star jasmine and effervescent citrus. Heavy-bodied, dense, and loaded with glycerine. 700 CASES PRODUCED | Download PDF Tech Sheet

TASTING NOTES: Our Rosemary’s Block Zinfandel is a consistently high-definition wine thanks to its structure and vibrancy. The 2012 vintage is unctuous, ripe, and decadent, yet remains true to its nature with predominant red fruit characteristics and feminine perfume – the only surprise being the addition of subtle herb and game. Gorgeous magenta core with a ruby rim and dazzling crystalline clarity. A swirl of the glass releases macerated red cherries, grenadine, and freshly ground ginger embellished by cascades of exotic spice. Billowing notes of lavender and freesia follow, transmuting into subtle herb-rubbed smoky game, saddle, and lemon zest. Medium body with a persistently vibrant core that provides an intense foundation on the palate and allows seamless integration of focused fruit, spice, and vibrant acidity. Drink now through 2022.

2010 Brown Recluse

2010 Brown Recluse 750ml – $125 | $112.50 | $106.25

150 CASES PRODUCED – SOLD OUT | Download PDF Tech Sheet

BACKGROUND: We generally harvest our zinfandel before our cabernet sauvignon, but every now and then the stars align and David finds himself harvesting both simultaneously. Some of you may recall our 2005 Chaos Theory, a magnificent result of this very phenomenon – a phenomenon that opens a window for creation of a co-fermented blend, whereby the cab and zin are “married” at the outset. Unlike a blend whose components are fermented, barrel-aged, and developed separately prior to blending, a co-fermented wine benefits from the opportunity to alter its own genetic composition synergistically throughout the winemaking process. The result, in this case, is a cohesive melding together of two very distinct varieties into a oneness that provides an otherworldly, divine, and supremely balanced and elegant palate experience. Petite Sirah Dessert Wine 375ml – $48 | $43.20 | $40.80

TASTING NOTES: This viscous wine clings to the glass, a captivating abyss of darkness encircled by a tantalizing magenta rim. One steady swirl and a deep pink stain washes over the bowl creating a psychedelic pattern all its own. Simultaneously a profound bouquet fills the glass and spills into the room, a subtle explosion of fragrance opening with spun brown sugar, eucalyptus, toffee covered apples, brandied maraschino cherries, and currants topped with Chantilly cream. Further investigation uncovers deeper notes of dark chocolate, bay, and forest pine. Cohesion between the petite sirah and zinfandel brandy is most evident on the palate, where the two become one. Mouthfeel is everything the nose implies yet surprisingly dry. Drink now through the end of time.

The Message
We are bottling this wine in August 2013, as our parents’ 50th wedding anniversary approaches. Though the 2012 vintage date belies what Dad exultantly calls their “Golden Jubilee,” the 2013 bottling date marks it. So we dedicate this year’s magnum of our flagship Napa Valley zinfandel to Mom & Dad, and to their fruitful and formidable five-decade partnership. Their unfailing dedication to one another and their forward-thinking faith in us are the cornerstones of Brown Estate and all that we have built along the way. Thank you Mom & Dad for keeping it together!
