2016 Petite Sirah

  • Tasting Notes

Inky rich deep purple hue. Nose marked by notes of graphite, eucalyptus, lavender, violet, and sweet black plums. Palate leads with ripe blueberries, black currants, and candied apples, finishing with flavors of brown sugar, dark chocolate, and a hint of s’mores. Body has a luscious viscosity that lingers on the palate for a lengthy finish. Drink now through the end of time.

  • Background

An outsider to the cult of noble grapes {as is Zinfandel}, Petite Sirah is part underdog, part phoenix. Considered lacking in pedigree it triumphs paradoxically on the strength of its many overlooked virtues. A sort of alter ego to Cabernet Sauvignon, unburdened of noblesse oblige, it is everything its royal counterpart aspires to and more. Holding nothing back, neither reserved nor austere, its exuberance and unadulterated power deliver a wallop of fruit, game, and earth. No wonder it's David's "second" favorite...
