2014 Petite Sirah

  • Tasting Notes

Enchanting onyx core and fluorescent fuchsia rim. Nose of forest earth and molten chocolate opens into a dialogue between brandied cherries and currants, dried hibiscus, fragrant lilac, and lavender. Subsequent hints of early morning garden mix with blackberries, raspberries, anise, baking spice, and a trace of tannic dust. Mouthfeel is opulent, velvety, and juicy with elegant structure. Full bodied and voluptuous with medium++ tannins and a long lingering finish. Drink now for a full-throttle experience or cellar to your heart’s content for ongoing enhanced smoothness and integration.

  • Background

Our Petite Sirah began as a non-estate wine, or perhaps we should say near-estate since the first three vintages were grown on a neighboring vineyard in our Chiles Valley appellation. David so enjoyed working with this varietal—and our wine club members so loved his results—he decided to plant three acres of it on our property, thus giving the 2012 vintage legit “grown, produced & bottled” estate cred. Known to rival cabernet sauvignon in the aging department thanks to its intensely structural qualities, our petite sirah consistently surprises by drinking beautifully right out of the gate.
