2014 Brown Recluse
Gorgeous oxblood core and ruby rim display the brilliance of a vintage royal jewel. Nose bursts with a complex potpourri of wintergreen, bay laurel, and subtle eucalyptus, transmuting into a soft perfume of gardenia and Madagascar jasmine. Dark ripe fruits follow, interlaced with rose petals and heavy cream. Time in the glass brings out hints of grenadine & soda with exotic Asian apple folding into cedar box, leather, and damp limestone, finishing with festive notes of vanilla bean and nutmeg atop English trifle. Mouthfeel is luxuriously silky with medium tannins and a lengthy finish. Pair with glazed double-cut pork chops and garlic mash, or something similarly inspired and indulgent. Drink now through 2025.

Like its namesake spider, we hope your encounter with this elusive wine will become the stuff of lore. So reads the back label on our Brown Recluse, a reserve blend of cabernet sauvignon and zinfandel inspired by the wine David created for our first appearance at the Auction Napa Valley barrel auction. We bottle it only when Mother Nature permits, and David dials in a new ratio for each new vintage based on the qualities these two heterogeneous varietals derive from the growing season.
